The Company
Ystrad Service Centre Ltd is a privately owned independent garage that specialises in advanced diagnostics, electrical fault finding, routine servicing, general repairs and MOT’s, the company prides itself on being one of the most well equipped garages in South Wales offering a wide range of services comparable to main dealer workshops. Established in January 2020, the company currently employs eight people and is looking to recruit a fully qualified and experienced vehicle technician / mechanic to join our growing team.
Location
The job will be based at our site in Ystrad Mynach.
The Role
Reporting to a company director, the successful candidate will be working on a wide range of cars and light commercial vehicles and will be required to undertake the following;
- Completing advanced electrical and mechanical diagnostics and repairs.
- Service inspections and maintenance repairs to manufacturers specifications.
- Renewing timing belts/chains, clutches and completing engine and drivetrain rebuilds.
- Liaising with suppliers and colleagues to identify parts and offer technical advice.
- Communicating effectively with customers to explain problems and offer solutions.
- Supporting apprentice technicians with their continued learning and development.
- Participating in training courses that may require off site travel.
- Completing any other reasonable task that may be required in support of the business.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Light vehicle repair and maintenance NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) qualification.
- A minimum of two years experience working as a fully qualified vehicle technician in a garage environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literate with an ability to understand and use parts/wiring diagrams, technical bulletins and other technical literature.
- Strong planning and organisation skills.
- Self-confidence and personal initiative with an ability to work with minimum supervision.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) grade A to C.
- Experience using a range of diagnostics tools (Autel, Bosch, Snap-On).
- Working knowledge of garage software such as AutoData, Haynes Pro and Techman.
- Experience completing four wheel alignment using a Hunter system.
- Qualified MOT Tester (Class 4, 5L & 7)
About You
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of competence and experience of working within a busy garage environment as a fully qualified technician for a minimum of two years, extensive practical knowledge is a must as the company is looking for someone that’s going to be able to hit the ground running immediately, training will be provided in the use of the company’s internal systems (garage management software and the other technical resources).
Preference will be given to candidates that are qualified MOT testers (class 4, 5L and 7).
Applications from candidates that are not fully qualified and/or are unable to demonstrate the necessary experience for this role will not be considered.

Benefits
The successful candidate will receive a salary of £25k - £35k per annum dependent on experience and 28 days holiday (enforced on Bank Holidays & Christmas), this is based on a 45 hour contract (08:30 – 17:30 Monday to Friday), overtime may be available on Saturdays.
Additional Information
The successful candidate must possess a full UK driving licence with access to their own vehicle, travel may be required to support the company’s operations and to attend offsite training sessions with the company’s training providers.
